Update 6.07: Artifact Presets, Much More

War.app has just been updated to version 6.07.0! This update adds a bunch of new features and makes improvements to the game and app. This blog post describes what’s changed.

This update is live now on the website at https://war.app and on the standalone clients. It will go live on the Android app and iOS app in the coming week or two.

Many of the features being delivered in this update were directly lifted from the Feature Request Forum, where you can vote on what features you’d like to see implemented into War.app next. This is the primary way of making your voice heard, so be sure to vote if you haven’t!

Idle Artifact Presets

Idle Premium players can now save their set of artifacts as a Preset, and then equip a whole set with a single click.

Re-sizeable Bottom Panels

In a War.app classic game, you’ve always been able to click+drag the chat label to adjust the height of the chat area. However in the past it’s always reset back to its standard height for each game. Now, the height you drag it to will persist and stay where you previous left it.

In Idle War.app, the bottom panel is now able to be resized. Simply drag its tab buttons up or down, and it persists the size you pick just like chat.

Template Map Upgrade

When a new version of a map comes out, players with templates that were using that map now get sent a notification alerting them that they may want to upgrade their template to the latest version of the map.

The notification also contains a link to a new template-upgrade routine that will upgrade the template to the latest version of the map, while keeping its custom scenario, bonus overrides and distribution mode. In the past, updating to the latest version of a map would have wiped these things.

Note that if the map maker made drastic changes to the map, like adding or removing territories or bonuses, the upgrade routine will tell the template owner about it so they can review their template and ensure it still matches their intent. For example, if the template uses a custom scenario and a new territory was added to the map, it will default to neutral with 2 armies, which may not be what the template owner expects.

Tournaments allow Customizing Prerequisites

When creating a public tournament, you can now change its open seat prerequisites with the new Open Seat Prerequisites button during tournament creation. Previously, tournament creators would have to go back to the Create Game page to customize the prerequisites in a template and then return to Create Tournament.

In-game Private Chat Lists Active Players First

When picking who to send a private message to, players still in the game are now listed under “Active Players”, above eliminated, surrendered or booted players under “Inactive”. This makes it easier to coordinate in large games.

Buy Idle Tech from Markets

When you’re short of resources for a tech that your markets sell, the tech dialog now offers a button to buy what’s missing and unlock the tech in one click. This saves the time of switching back and forth from the techs tab to the market tab.

Idle Time-To-Upgrade

Upgrade buttons you can’t afford yet now show how long until you can, and the tech dialog shows how long until you’ll have each resource it needs. This helps you get a feel for how far away you are from an upgrade without having to do the math.

Idle Welcome-Back Dialog Improved

The Welcome Back dialog now also shows the territories conquered, techs bought and upgrades bought by your autos while you were away. This helps show the progress your empire is making while you were away.

Idle Pending Arenas

Added an Arenas button to the Mines tab, next to Dig Sites, that lists the arenas you’ve conquered but haven’t won yet. This makes it easier to find an arena if you feel like a game but don’t remember where they were on the map.

New Mod Abilities

  • Mods: Added the Client_MapLayers hook, which lets mods draw persistent map layers (labels and shapes) that players can turn on or off from the game menu. Like other visuals, these are usable in the app and on the website in 3d mode, but not on the website in 2d mode.
  • Mods: Added the Client_DescribeOrder hook, which lets mods change the text and tooltip of their orders in the orders list and turn history.
  • Mods: Added the Client_TurnAdvanced hook, which runs when a game has advanced while the player has it open.
  • Mods: Added the Client_TerritoryInfo hook, which lets mods add rows to the territory inspector and hover tooltip, such as “Fortified: +3 defense”.
  • Mods: Added Mod.ClientStorage, which lets mods remember things on your device, such as settings or whether they’ve already shown you something.
  • Mods: Added UI.SetMenuBadge, which lets mods show a short badge, such as a count, on their menu button.
  • Mods: Added MapWidth / MapHeight properties so mods can see how big the map is.
  • Mods: Client_Visual now also draws visuals for GameOrderPlayCardCustom and GameOrderCustom orders, using the hook of the mod that defines the card. They also show faded as you build your turn, just like built-in orders do.
  • Mods: Added SetDepthTest(true) to Client_Visual. This lets mods draw 3d shapes more realistically.
