"It's needed for historical accuracy, especially in any kind of war game."
That is a horribly asinine take. People naming themselves after some of the worst people to have ever existed is not "needed", and they usually do it to show their alignment with said people's views, or to troll people.
Nothing about it is needed.

Agreed, thank you Johnny Silverhand. Dan , I encourage you and all else reading to take a look at this game chat from approx 2 months ago. Read the game chat first, then come back to this post. https://war.app/MultiPlayer?GameID=44457772You’ll see that upon realizing that I was now in a game with someone named Kitler, who has 3 different Nazi references between their username, a picture of a cat in their bio that looks like Hitler, as well as the fuhrer in their bio… It looked very suspect what their intent could be, but I didn’t jump to conclusions. You’ll see I politely asked for clarification on if they had a Hitler obsession, as I didn’t want to play a game with someone that did. Check out how the conversation goes from there… they had multiple times to deny that they weren’t a Hitler/Nazi supporter and didn’t. They could have said something like “it makes sense why you would ask given the 3 things on my profile, but I actually hate Hitler and Nazi ideology, but I’m also a part of a cat clan on this app, and I thought the puns were clever and funny given it’s a war game. I have a dark sense of humor, but I truly mean no harm and I hope you don’t take offense given this explanation.” And I would have believed that answer as an example of someone who probably didn’t have bad intent to be disrespectful, offensive, and hateful. I probably would have “thanked them for clarifying, agreed that it’s dark humor, and asked them that if they truly hate Hitler, does it make sense to make that clear on your profile if you have all of those Hitler references?” I’m not gonna write out everything Kitler and I guess their friend said in the game chat, you can read it for yourself, but isn’t it interesting how I went in asking for clarification not ready to jump to a 100% conclusion about their intent, and then in return, there were false assumptions and name calling made toward me? I didn’t have conclusions before asking the question, but certainly afterwards concluded that their intent was to be disrespectful. So there’s an example for you Dan. And to get ahead of it by anyone saying that I started a discussion about “politics” in that game chat…no, the user with 3 Hitler references on their profile started it. I reported this btw. No response and no action taken. Just another sad example of how this app is currently normalizing Nazi ideology.

Thank you for sharing Johnson Kyle. I truly mean that. Most people would just attack you and call you names, but I’m not here to do that. I don’t believe that is a solution oriented way of combatting the hate and danger of nazi ideology. In addition to that, I also have an open mind, and so I read the link you sent, and plugged it into chat gpt to verify what’s true, false, or misleading. (According to chat GPT) If you also have an open mind, I’d ask two things back of you:
1. Plug it into chat GPT for yourself . You can use a prompt that says something like “this guy online believes Hitler wasn’t all that bad and sent this pdf to justify that claim. Can you verify and/or debunk the claims in here? “
2. Can you acknowledge the danger and harm that this ideology can cause to people? Look up the tree of life attack in Pittsburgh as an example. Try and put yourself in the shoes of the victims and their families.
Thanks again for openly sharing. Without people doing that, or with people just calling you names in return, there’s 0 chance of making progress. The dialogue is important. Please let me know if you are open to following through on my 2 questions back at you.

Thanks for sharing. Although I disagree, especially because the username clearly violates the TOS & rules, I can understand that thought process for not banning the username.
What I can’t understand, is given the prevalence of Hitler names and Nazi support on here, why this app isn’t doing more to combat it both for business and moral reasons.

Who are you wanting to protect here? Just victims of Hitler? Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot too? Mussolini? Do we view democrats, or republicans, or even both, as a form of harmful ideology and seek to ban Trump, Biden, Obama, Bush, or all of the above? What about religion; Christianity? Islam? Atheism, the lack of religion? Should the name Jesus Christ be banned to protect atheists and Muslims? Or Christopher Hitchens banned to protect the evangelicals? What about just the name Christopher? Or Jesus, a common name in places like Mexico? How far do we want to take this? We could go all the way to banning all names if we really wanted to. After all, surely SOMEBODY with that name has seriously hurt someone else once, and so can be viewed as disrespectful. If we never draw a line and say time to grow some thicker skin, there’s no reason not to. But there’s no clear reason why Jesus shouldn’t be banned but Hitler should, given your logic. A gay person in the Evangelical South who was abused with Christianity by their parents could easily feel disrespected by the name Jesus that was used to degrade them and mark them as immoral, evil, and inferior simply because of their birth sexuality. So no more Jesus, or Mohammed? No more religious names at all, banning John, Peter, and Simon? Surely no more religion at all ever would be necessary as well to protect feelings? Banning Word Walker, a top level player, is ridiculous.
Eminem gay bashes in his songs, talks about r**ing women, and has caused a lot of issues and controversy. Time to ban talking about Rap God, where Eminem talks about tripping women for fun? What about the candy M&Ms, which sounds exactly the same and is bound to remind someone of the rapper who may offend them personally if real homophobia or misogyny had hurt them?
At what point does this just break down and force you to draw a subjective, irrational line that allows offending some and not others, for no other reason than it eliminates the sources you find most uncomfortable and are sensitive to? If we never draw a line, EVERYTHING can become offensive. But drawing the line is always arbitrary.
This is not an encouragement of names obviously intended to refer to sensitive topics. This is wrong. But so is banning people for it.

If someone is actually trying cosplay as Hitler or a nazi through their game chats, that action should be punishable. My main point is the name shouldn't be punished, but the user actually says should be.
What you'll end up doing is denying the name, without addressing the actual intent to spread nazi ideology.
Keep the name but punish the offending chats.

Something that needs to be brought up is the difference between actually being a neo-nazi, satire and dark humour. This is an example of satire: https://war.app/Profile?p=5272108818&u=Kitler_1 . It's not for everyone. It should be at your own discretion to block, rather than blocking it for everyone. Dark humour is meant to go against social norms. The absurdity and how it's wrong on so many levels makes it funny. Humour is inherently subjective and comedians have been cancelled because even though people paid and turn up, people who weren't the intended audience watched anyway and decided to complain even though it wasn't for them. Examples of comedians who go into this area include Frankie Boyle and Jimmy Carr. I enjoy dark humour. Some wiki articles about key terms:

Dan - what from this conversation with that profile that you shared indicates their sole intent was dark humor? https://war.app/MultiPlayer?GameID=44457772

From the public chat in that game, there's no clear intent of the player actually being a neo-nazi.
It was a rude reply, but you did straight up accuse the player of being a nazi without sufficient evidence.
You do realise the name of your other teammate has another meaning, right? It might seem innocent at first glance, so most people might not notice it at all.

What I'm guessing happened is: 1) You asked about the name in public chat. 2) Got a rude reply. 3) Reported for the message or for their profile. 4) The player may have been warned for offence language and included a quote of what was said. Moderation actions don't give any user feedback. 5) You didn't get any feedback, so trying to get the player banned anyway using community pressure, rather than being accepting of the existing username policy.
If it's a ban on the player that you're after, the changing the username policy won't do that. It would at maximum result in a Placeholder username. Both you and Kitler aren't fully innocent. It's better to use the report procedure than to accuse in public chat. Offensive language isn't allowed.

Dan- Please read my first question from that game chat again, and learn some reading comprehension before accusing me of that. You can come back and apologize after.
Given their name, profile picture, and bio which all has Hitler references, their profile was suspect to me. Because of that, it was very reasonable for me to ask for clarification on if they were a Hitler supporter. I mostly put it in the public game chat to make it known to the rest of the game that I had no intention of playing a game with someone if that were the case, so I gave Kitler the opportunity to explain it, rather than accuse as you incorrectly stated.
I can see some argument of not putting it in the public game chat, but out of respect for the users, I wanted them to know why I was about to potentially surrender. Thought that would be the best etiquette at the time.
After Kitlers rude responses and when they didn’t deny it, “I did ask why they won’t answer the question, is bc they are a nazi? “ That also, is not an accusation either. It is a question, although it’s a much more direct question than the way I politely originally asked it. Learn the difference Dan.
THEY however accused me of incorrect and horrible stuff, without asking a question. (Though no question would have been warranted, because I did nothing to indicate on my profile or in the chat that I potentially had those views or did those actions they said I did.) Couldn’t be further from the truth.
I am not looking to ban any players. I am looking to change the abhorrent behavior and ideology that is tolerated on this app and right in front of my face that I don’t want to be subject to when someone enters a game after me. Blocking doesn’t negate that a surrender impacts my stats.
After their non denials, and their responses, especially the one that says “one man’s hate is another man’s truth”, I very much lean toward Kitler having Nazi views and not just dark humor.
I’m starting to think you’re a troll at this point that I’m wasting my time with.

I'm not being a troll. You don't want to hear opinions different from your own. Polarisation is to blame.
If you ask someone if they aren't something really bad, you are accusing them of being something really bad. Like if you ask someone if they are cheating, you are accusing them of being a cheater. The report button functions as a neutral place to report suspicious behaviour. It avoids being confrontational.
You can't see the difference between satire and being an actual neo-nazi. I'm not going to even bother trying to convince you any further on why the name should be allowed as it would waste my time and you won't change your mind anyway.
