Is the game dead?: 2026-07-17 19:53:21

It has been stated on another thread, why are templates locked away from QM use.
i've been on QM where it is impossible to get a match, which tells me the community has gotten so bored of QM that they no longer go there when wanting to play 1v1 or 2v2 in real time.

if they are on QM, why are they ranked 26 and 34?
the game requires players
if templates are good for TTuesdays, then open them to QM without locking them away.
What does locking away templates accomplish for the QM community?---not sure.
it just makes the gameplay at QM boring.

rick, love your donald fagan album cover but if you can't read, then stay off a "forum", and go back to twitter.
Love people who when presented with a problem have no solution but point out something unrelated or "the actual problem"

1) how many of you actually use QM?
2) regardless of level or experience, why is it that QM, the same old templates come up over and over?
3) if Elitist Africa is such a great template for use (i tried in single player against AI) in TT, why is it ranked 26.
4) when was the last time anyone has seen the templates NOW being played on TT, ever on QM

the thread is, "is the game dead?"

and my question is, why isn't the TT format being used on QM?
if TT is so popular (real-time games in a live setting with real people),
then why isn't that taking place on QM?

i'm going to repeat. i've been on QM where i haven't got a single match, not for anything for over ten minutes.
it wasn't even that bad a year ago

maybe change the algorithm and rotate templates every month.
i don't know this is a forum but the QM system is good and lets you play live against an opponent in real time.
this is why TT is doing well.

i'm going to thank L61 Pablo Platcasso for his well-composed reply above, bottom of pg2.

his 2nd paragraph is telling, "Why has clans thrown away the elitism from recruiting? Because there isn't enough players coming through the pipelines to recruit and stay alive that's quite telling."

1) i went on Risk Hasbro and played it. it is not realistic because players take turns one by one. if you are player #5 or 6 you are at an extreme disadvantage.
2) what we love about WZ is that the plays are all made AT THE SAME TIME, we must not lose sight of this.
we make a move, and the other person is trying to move against us in real time. RISK DOES NOT OFFER THIS.
3) after playing WZ, one wishes Risk Hasbro was a lot more like WZ, but they are completely different games

most people want to play a game in real time
to grow the community you need a large and steady stream of new players at the bottom of the pyramid.

the key to a larger community is more variety of short games at the base of the pyramid, in real time with QM. restricting the menu of template games till the higher levels is a huge mistake because

a) it forces new players to play a small selection of games, usually against more experienced players
b) no variety of games being conjured, so all players get bored of QM, and don't use it any more
c) it doesn't serve anyone (including Fizzer's income) to have QM limited to just a few games.
it's a QUICK MATCH. open it up, show people something other than the same damned Risk board.
show them something new,
give them games to play for $1 per month, try something new

QM is not Risk. QM is what introduces new players to "real-time gaming", not turn by turn where you can watch what the other moves are ahead of you. Once you try it, you want "real-time gaming".

As Pablo says, the pipeline is drying up.
There are no easy answers but a community of only L50-65 players can't survive.
it's rare to see players L1-20, and that isn't a good thing.
When i see one, I always welcome them to the community.

i just went onto QM.
matching happened, not instantanous
4PM EST on a saturday.
one player from germany, one from uraguay, and one american.
the american was L36 and said, "gl. I only play multiplayer (QM) for the idle rewards lol"

Risk Hasbro offers free real-time gaming as follows:
one of 6-10 types of boards, mostly "the world" or europe
4-6 players
capture the capitals, conquer it all, conquer 70% of spaces, eliminate one enemy
with various times per turn, 30s, 45s, 60s, 90s, 120s.
fog, or no fog.
"blizzard" which is a wasteland you can't destroy.
Free players can play many of these games but have limits on gaming and some features.
those that like, pay to play more.

lots of variety, but one big problem. the turns are done in sequence, and you see each person's moves.
WZ isn't like this. WZ's biggest advantage is that all turns are made together, and each player is trying to outguess the opponent.

Fizzer needs to just copy everything else from Risk Hasbro.
30s, time for just 1-2 moves, gotta be very fast
45-60s is comfortable to make moves
but it's tiring to do so with 6 players going one by one.

WZ QM can be 60 second turns on small 100 territory boards, 3man FFA
mix it up, more variety,
but the current 1v1 or 2v2 on <10 templates with 3-5 minute clock is boring.
people are tuning out.

would QM be more interesting as a 3man FFA???
even that simple change would make things a lot more interesting.

simple changes can keep people on the format
without variety of games, people leave.
Elite players or paying players come from people who try for free, then like it and stay.

the current system may not be offering that.
