You semi-fixed the bug that if you missed a mortar shot, you could just refresh the screen and try again and again until it hit. I might get one or two extra shots now before it catches I am refreshing the screen. Someone with technical knowledge please explain how this happens, when it's just something I discovered while drunk because I got angry and Xed out the window one time when it missed. If I disconnected from . . . nevermind, I won't share my speculations and theories.

Don't get mad at me because I am providing you info on bugs and how to improve glitches in your game. I am just curious to know how and why this used to work.

I've never heard of this. Probably a sync related issue and isn't reliable. Mortars are usually not worth the cost, but there are some levels they can significantly help with (e.g., Hard Far Land, Reconquista), especially with the ladder bonus or WZ premium.

Why would you use mortars? I think I used one the day they were released and found them so terrible that I would actually be happier if they were replaced with nothing whatsoever. There'd be no popup to dismiss, and I can't mis-click and waste a bunch of money if they don't exist.

On some of the post-Superascension levels I found the mortars useful. Mind you, I have the ladder reward and I've maxed the advancement, so mortars are cheaper to load, have a better success rate and kill more armies if they hit. But even without all that, it would have been a whole lot cheaper to use those mortars than spend the money on mercs to kill the same number of armies.

That said, before superascending I generally didn't find the mortars worthwhile, apart from a few isolated cases.

Yes when you have the benefits Rob mentioned, especially making mortars more accurate, they can be useful in very specific cases. Mainly when you have plenty of money and the mortars can attack places with a ton of armies. HFL has 7 mortars or so and they can take out maybe 7 billion armies or more if you use them all. And as Rob said, the post SA levels have very expensive Mercs so anything that can help is useful. Though I'd just wait for a good IM artifact, they're all doable with that and time.

But after a bunch of SAs with AP bonuses you have enough Mercs you don't think about mortars. It's the middle ground where it's helpful.
