Rap is one of the lowest music art forms to have ever come across the world It has been co-opted by wanna-be thugs that try to act "hard" but are often just either lower-class with not manners Or become rich enough (Eminem) that they still try to give off an image of lower-class, such as the way they talk and dress
Why is this genre so entrenched in appearance of being lower-class
If I am paying to go watch someone sing I expect them to be well-dressed Not wearing loose fitting shirts and their pants low

You should look into the history of hip hop, its birth in 1970s black culture and the five pillars. You've made quite an ignorant (no offence) generalisation that makes you sound like a grandad.

@elcapitan
I'm talking about Rap in the present day I said it has been co-opted
And I think reason it has been is because it is the type of music that requires less skill and work to create All songs are basically poetry being sang
Many of "amateur rappers" as in regular people, many whom I have met and have been [redacted] Seem to overcompensate their "toughness" as they fail to realize that poetry and singing isn't a feminine thing
If they learned to play an instrument and kept a rhythm it would be much better to convey an feeling or message Sad songs have lyrics and INSTRUMENTALS that help convey the emotion
Rap is just lazy It is like building a house that is not connected to the sewer system or electricity You are not building something to it's potential

I would argue that there is both good and garbage in all genres of music.
As with the other genres it seems like there is an inverse correlation between popularity and quality.

The entire concept of 'overrated' things is asinine.
When someone says something is overrated, what they really mean is that they like it less than other people do, and that they think their view is more valid than everyone else's.

> Early Rap was good. Contemporary Rap is not. Wouldn't really consider it that clear-cut, even if I agree with the general sentiment.
There's still good new rappers that can compete with the rappers from the 90's.
It's just not the case for most of what gets radio play these days.
