Sick: Edited the limited browser support to reflect changes made in update 5.26

All Warzone maps work in both 2d mode and 3d mode. However, when in 3d mode, there are a few additional features that are available to map designers to help take advantage of the additional rendering capabilities of Warzone's 3d rendering engine. These are optional, and as a map designer you can choose to use them or ignore them. They just allow your map to stand out better when viewed in 3d. All of these features can be found under the "3d Settings" button in the map designer. This button only appears when viewing your map in 3d mode.

Texture Image
Map designers can upload a texture image that will be displayed on the top of territories and bonus links. You can upload this image in the "3d Settings" dialog.

The image should be a png for best results, and should use a transparent background for any parts you don't want to alter. This width/height of this image should have the same aspect ratio of your map. For example, if your map is 1500x1000 pixels, your texture image should have a 1.5:1 ratio. Any area of the image that doesn't line up with a territory or bonus link in your map will not be used, so these areas can be transparent in your image.

Map designers can also set a texture image strength which defines how strongly the texture image, from 0 to 50, that controls how the texture image gets mixed with the normal color of the territory (normally the color of the player who controls the territory). A value of 0 means that the texture image will not show at all, and a theoretical value of 100 would mean that the normal color would not show at all and only the texture image would show. This is why it's capped at 50, since values that are too high would make the game unplayable.

The strength can be changed in the map designer and the results will be displayed in real-time, so map designers can tune in a value they are comfortable with. Uploading a new texture image also gets displayed immediately on the map for rapid iteration.

A good texture image does not use large solid colors, since this may interfere with player's abilities to tell which territories are controlled by which players in a Warzone game.

Heightmap
Map designers can upload two heightmap images that allow you to give 3d depth of your map when played in 3d mode. This is most commonly used to define hills or mountains or other similar forms of elevation. The main heightmap only applies to your territories and bonus links, and the terrain heightmap applies to the rest of your map (decorative regions).

This width/height of these images should have the same aspect ratio of your map. For example, if your map is 1500x1000 pixels, your texture image should have a 1.5:1 ratio.

Each pixel in the image defines how high the elevation should be at that spot, where black is the lowest possible elevation and white is the highest possible elevation. Colors have no meaning.

Map designers can define a max height for each of these heightmaps that defines how much the map will be raised. This value can be altered in the map designer and results are shown in real-time.

Map designers can also define a tessellation size for each of these heightmaps. This controls how big each polygon in the resulting object will be. In other words, this controls how much the object will be sub-divided. Smaller values will allow a higher resolution for your heightmap, but going too small may result in too many polygons being created for your map which could cause it to perform very poorly. If using a heightmap, you should experiment with different values. The best value to use for this setting is the highest value that still looks good.

Note that uploading a new heightmap image or changing the tessellation size requires clicking "Apply" in the 3d Settings Dialog before results are shown.

Limited browser support
At the time of writing, 3d maps are not fully supported in browsers. Games and maps can be shown in 3d by adding "&3d=true" to the end of your querystring in your browser.
To make 3d maps use the Standalone Client.

Sick: updated document size + fixed a typo

This page shows how to create the basic elements of a Warzone map using Inkscape. If you are new to Inkscape then it is recommended that you read this!

Setting Page Properties
Before you start drawing your map there a couple of things that need to be done.

To access page properties click 'File' then 'Document Properties'. A small tab should appear.

Firstly the background colour needs to be changed to black. This is not really necessary, since Warzone has black as the default background already (unless you make a background yourself), but it can help you expect what the map will look like while drawing it. Just click the squared bar labelled 'Background' and change it to black.

Secondly the size of the document can be changed. The options for this are located on the bottom half of the page properties tab.

https://d32kaghj56y4ei.cloudfront.net/static/img/InkscapeDocumentProperties.png

Please note that you can change the page size later on without affecting your drawing. The max size for a Warzone map is 3500x2500. Also you can resize the document to fit the size of your drawing in the page properties tab as well.

Inserting a Template Image
To make a map that is both accurate and looks great you may want to use a template of the place you’re making a map of.

You can upload a image to Inscape from your computer may clicking on 'File' then 'Import'. Double click the image and you’re done.

If a box appears asking to link or embed the image then select 'embed'.

https://d32kaghj56y4ei.cloudfront.net/static/img/InkscapeImageUpload.png

You can resize the image the standard way, by dragging the corners and arrows presented.

Creating a Territory
This section will show how to create a territory from start to finish.

First you must select the 'Draw Calligraphic Or Brush Strokes' tool from the left side bar, (the one that looks like a ball point pen with 2 white dots below it.)

https://d32kaghj56y4ei.cloudfront.net/static/img/InkscapePen.png

This tool will allow you to create straight lines and curves to form shape. Just click to form straight lines, hold to form curves.

Connect the end of the line to the start to create a shape.

If part of your shape is out of place then you do not have to redraw the whole thing! You can use the 'Edit Path By Nodes' tool located at the 2nd from top tool on the left hand side tool bar. Your shape will appear red showing every corner and node in the shape, you can drag the nodes to edit your shape.

https://d32kaghj56y4ei.cloudfront.net/static/img/InkscapeNodes.png

The final step of making a territory is to name it. Select the shape and go to 'Object' then 'Object Properties'. On click a small box will appear. The description, label and title do not affect the territory when uploading to Warzone. It is the Id that you need to change. Replace the text inside the Id box with Territory_ followed by a number. EG: Territory_34

To set the Id once changed click 'Set'.

Please note you can change the colour settings and line thickness of a shape but Warzone will automatically change them to the map standard. To change these settings go to 'Object' then 'Fill And Stroke'.

Creating a Bonus
Bonuses are made in a similar way to territories but it's much easier!

Most bonuses are square shaped, but you can have them any shape you like. If you chose square or circle a preset shape maker tool is located at the top half of the left hand tool bar.

Just create the shape of you bonuse to the size you want. (It can be edited whenever you like.)

Then like a territory go to 'Object' then 'Object Properties' to be greeted with the Object Properties box.

Like a territory the label, title and description do not matter but the Id does.

The Id needs to be BonusLink_ followed by the bonus name. EG: BonusLink_EastEurope

Please note when uploading to Warzone you can add spaces to the name but the capitals and name must be the same. So BonusLink_EastEurope can be named on Warzone EastEurope or East Europe but not east europe or East europe.

Inserting Text
Some Warzone maps contain text, either for titles or to add effect to the map.

To add text just click the 'A' on the left hand tool bar.

https://d32kaghj56y4ei.cloudfront.net/static/img/InkscapeText.png

When you choose where to place your text you can change its font type, size, boldness and italics at the top of your screen.

Like shapes then can be moved and edited at any time.

Please note for text to appear when uploaded to Warzone it must be of a path type. To do this just select the text and go to 'Path' then 'Object To Path'. Job done.

Unioning (a Territory that Spans Over Several Shapes)
Sometimes a single territory is made up of several shapes! These need to be combined as a territory must be one shape only. Sometimes you can't just redraw them as they might not connect (E.g.: Nations with islands,) but who wants to redraw them anyway?

You can combine shapes easily by using the Union tool.

Select all shapes you want to combine (use the shift key or drag over all the shapes.) Once selected go to 'Path' then 'Union' and multiple have become one.

Please note is one of the shapes you group has a Id of Territory_ you may get errors when uploading to Warzone.

Fixing small territories
The union feature can also be used to ensure players can click on small territories. Take, for example, Baja from the Earth map. In its raw form, it's way too small to fit an army number or be clickable:

https://d32kaghj56y4ei.cloudfront.net/static/img/Baja1.png

To rectify this, we draw a circle on top of it:

https://d32kaghj56y4ei.cloudfront.net/static/img/Baja2.png

Then select both the new circle and the Baja territory behind it at the same time. Select Path -> Union, and observe the resulting territory:

https://d32kaghj56y4ei.cloudfront.net/static/img/Baja3.png

Cutting holes
Sometimes maps call for having territories inside of other territories or bonuses within territories, maybe even water. It may be logical to just make both territories and put the outer one behind the inner one, but this doesn't work since in Warzone player-controllable territories should never overlap. Instead, a hole should be cut in the bigger territory so the smaller one can persist in the hole.

To accomplish this, we use the Path -> Difference command. To begin, select both territories (the inner and outer one) at the same time using Shift+Click

https://d32kaghj56y4ei.cloudfront.net/static/img/CutTutorial1.png

Then select Path -> Difference. This will delete the smaller object and leave the outer one with a hole.

https://d32kaghj56y4ei.cloudfront.net/static/img/CutTutorial2.png

Since this deletes the inner object, you should consider making a duplicate of it, and perform the operation with the duplicate.

Simplify
Sometimes territories can contain way more data than they need. One example is after drawing territories with the pencil tool, if you view the vertices (F2) you'll see it has an excessive amount.

This is easy to fix simply by selecting Path -> Simplify (Ctrl+L). This reduces the number of vertices drastically, and in most cases, doesn't alter the appearance of the object at all:

https://d32kaghj56y4ei.cloudfront.net/static/img/Simplify.png

Not only does this make the object easier to work with and increase the performance of Inkscape, it also reduces the size of your resulting Warzone map which makes it load faster and allows you to fit more objects into your map.

Path Division
One way of building Warzone maps is to divide larger areas into smaller territories with the path division operation. It can be used to divide a single region into two according to another path that defines the border between the new regions.

To split a region, you naturally first have to have drawn this region as a proper Inkscape path. Begin by drawing the desired border as a new path using, for example, the Pen tool. It does not matter if the path defining the border extends outside the territory you wish to split, as it disappears when this operation is complete.

After drawing the new border, select the region with the Selection tool, and then also simultaneously select the dividing path while pressing the Shift key. Then select the Division operation from the Path menu, or press its shortcut Ctrl+/. You now have two regions that you can modify separately, and perhaps split again to make smaller regions. It is a good idea to simplify the dividing path before doing this, as simplifying the two new regions afterwards separately usually changes their border shapes in different ways.

When splitting a large continent into bonus regions, you can make use of the Inset operation after making all the divisions. Using an inset of half a pixel (set by going to Inkscape Preferences and opening the Steps tab) on each of the bonus regions should make their borders appear adjacent in the recommended way. After defining all the bonus regions, no further insets are needed, as inside each bonus region the recommended way is to have the borders overlap. Because of this, the bonus regions and their insets should be done first when mapping a larger continent.

Sick: Updated image to the warzone ui instead of the old warlight one

Warzone will always execute your orders in the order that you supply them, mixed in with the orders from the other players. In the Orders list in the top-right, you can re-arrange your orders by clicking on them and using the up and down buttons.

Sometimes it is advantageous for your orders to happen early in the turn, other times it is better for your orders to happen after your opponent's orders.

When you want an order to happen after your opponents, often it is useful to execute "dummy" moves first (simply moving armies around within your own territory) so that your important moves happen later in the turn rather than sooner. At least one army must actually move. If no armies move, it won't delay your orders at all. For example, if you execute a transfer only order to a spot you don't control, this won't result in any armies moving and therefore won't delay your later orders at all.

Types of Move Order
Players can specify one of three ways that the move order will work for their game when they create it: Random, Cycle, or No-Luck Cycle. You should check the Settings panel of a game to see which mode it's in.

Random Move Order
When a game is configured to randomize the move order, Warzone will randomize the move order on each turn. Each player's first order is executed in this random order, then each player's second order, and each player's third.

This means that in 1v1 games you always have a 50% chance that your first order will happen before your opponent's first order.

For the next round of attacks, the order is reversed so the last player in the first round gets the first move in the second round. It then reverses again for the third round, and so on. This process continues until all orders are executed.

In team games, Warzone ensures that teams are first randomized into their own move order, and then the players within each team. For example, in a 2v2 game, it's not possible for both of team A's players to get to move before any of team B's players.

Cyclic Move Order
The first turn of a game is randomized just as it would be in the Random Move Order system presented above, but subsequent turns reverse the order each time. For example: ABCD becomes DCBA the next turn, then returns to ABCD for the third turn. This means that, unlike the random move order, the move order is predictable.

The game does not tell you who goes in what order; you must deduce it by observing the sequence that orders happen. Note that it is possible to deduce the sequence from deploy orders as well as attack/transfer orders, because deploys happen in the same sequence as moves.

This works well for 1v1 games, since one player will get first move on all of the even numbered turns while the other player gets the odd numbered turns.

In games with manual distribution, the order in which territories are distributed is considered part of the cycle. For example, in a game with two players (A and B), if player A gets their first pick, player B will get first move on the first turn.

No-Luck Cycle Move Order
No-Luck Cyclic is like Cyclic, except that it aims to remove the random roll on the first turn. The initial order of the cycle is determined by how fast each player plays during their first turn (or during territory distribution if it's a manual distribution game). Whoever plays fastest will be placed 1st in the first move order, and the second fastest player will be placed 2nd, etc. After the initial order is determined, move order will simply swap back and forth just as it would in cyclic move order.

In order to make this fair, the game will only measure the time from when you began playing your first turn until when you complete it. When a game begins using this move order, the map is initially hidden and a the begin dialog appears. Clicking the begin button reveals the map and starts your timer, which will stop when you commit orders or picks.

If you modify your orders on the first turn, it will extend your total move speed to encompass the entire time from when you begun until your final commit. For example, if you begin taking your turn at 1:00pm and commit at 1:10pm, your play speed will be 10 minutes. However, if at 1:30pm you change your mind and change your orders/picks, your play speed will update to 30 minutes.

To increase transparency, you can also see exactly how quickly each player took their first turn on warzone.com in the Menu -> Players window. This shows how fast they took their turn, and if you hover over that value, it also shows the exact time they began and ended taking it. As a separate column, it also shows the resulting move cycle that was determined based on these times. This highlights another difference between this new move order and the standard cyclic move order: the cycle is known by all players. In cyclic move order, it's up to players to figure out the cycle on their own, but in no-luck cycle, Warzone reveals to all players who will be moving when. To help make it obvious, the game shows exactly who will move on the next turn in the left column:

https://i.imgur.com/QP6Dmz4.png

On top you see your position for the next turn.
You can then press Move Order to see the entire move sequence for the next turn.

In team games, the slowest player's time of the team will be used to determine the order of the teams in the cycle. Then, within each team, the order is determined by the move speed of each player compared to their teammates.

Orders Sequence
After Warzone determines the move order, using the method explained above, it will execute each player's first order within each phase. Then, it reverses the move order, and executes each player's second order. It continues this process until all orders for that phase have been executed, then moves on to the next phase.

Sick: Updated the membership part because of update 5.21.0

Commanders are a feature that allows you to bring yourself into the battlefield. When commanders are enabled, all players in the game are given a special commander unit on one of their territories.

https://d32kaghj56y4ei.cloudfront.net/static/img/Commander.png

The commander represents you. You're on the battlefield with the rest of your armies, commanding them. If the commander dies, all of your armies change to neutral and you're eliminated from the game.

Commanders can attack, defend, and transfer in the same way that normal armies can. When you issue an attack or transfer order from a territory with a commander, a check-box will appear that allows you to optionally include the commander in that attack or transfer.

When in combat, commanders act like a stack of 7 armies. For example, if you attack with your commander along with 3 armies, it will do the same amount of damage that attacking with 10 armies would do. Similarly, if you are defending against an attack with your commander and 3 armies, you'll do damage to the attacker equal to if you were defending with 10 armies.

When a commander engages in combat along with armies, the armies always take damage first (they're protecting the commander with their life). For example, assume a territory has a commander plus 3 armies, and 10 armies attacks it. Using the default 60% kill rate, the 10 armies will do 6 damage. Since armies die first, the 3 armies die, and 3 damage would be left to be applied to the commander. Since it takes 7 damage to kill a commander, and commanders are never partially damaged, the 3 remaining damage does nothing. In order to kill a commander, all 7 damage must be done to it at once in a single attack.

In manual distribution games, commanders will always start on the first territory you are awarded (usually your #1 pick). In auto distribution games, commanders will start on a random territory of yours.

For the most part, commanders follow the same rules as armies. For example, in multi-attack games, commanders can attack many times, but as soon as they transfer they can't move again. However, unlike normal armies, commanders can not be transferred to a teammate (they must always remain on a territory you control.) Using an Airlift Card, commanders can be airlifted, as long as the destination is one of your own territories and not a teammate.

Before update 5.21.0, only members could enable commanders for their games, however anybody could join a game that uses commanders. This was changed in update 5.21.0, where players don't longer require a membership to enable commanders but instead unlock it at level 38.

Clans are a group of people on Warzone that were introduced in update 2.2. Quote from the blog:
Warzone now has an official built-in clan system! This allows players to form clans, which puts an icon next to each clan member’s name and gives clans ways to communicate easier.

Each clan gets a clan page, which works somewhat like a player’s profile page. They can upload their own image and enter the details they’d like to present. You can view all clans on the new Community -> Clans tab.

When you create your own clan, you have full control over who is allowed in your clan. There’s no limit to the size of clans, and you can remove anyone at any time.

Making a clan costs $9.99 or 999 coins. There are over 200 clans. Over 75 have more than 40 members, which is the clan member limit after Clan wars became a thing in early 2020. Link to the clan page: https://www.warzone.com/Clans/List

I'm moving this feedback onto the Mobile Client page. This page should just be a list of the devices that work / don't work. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by fullscreen mode - is that just to get rid of the status bar? Fizzer
As I already mentioned a few weeks ago, installation on HTC Desire with Android 2.2 no longer works. I already mailed you a Catlog as you requested, so far with no response. I can mail another one if that helps, just let me know. So far Warlight no longer works for me on HTC Desire. --Diabolicus 08:28, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

This page is really outdated, the app needs at least Android version 5.1 to be installed via the play store. It is very much likely no-one uses the phones listed on these page anymore for Warzone. Also it is probably not worth it to update it because it runs fine on most of the modern phones, of which there are a lot. It might be best to delete this page or at least the part with phones listed. --Sick (talk) 14:29, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
