By earning points, players can gain levels. Gaining levels unlocks additional features or maps that players can use, among other things.

Levels don't make you stronger
The idea of leveling up is familiar to anyone who's played an RPG. However, Warzone’s leveling system has an important distinction: In Warzone, levels don’t actually make you stronger. Warzone is fundamentally a competitive strategy game, and games will always be won or lost based on your strategy alone. Levels will not do anything that gives you an advantage in a game. It’s just as easy for a level 1 player to defeat a level 30 player as it is for a level 40 player.

Rewards
Leveling up unlocks rewards. Once a reward is unlocked, you have it permanently.
Map Levels
By gaining levels, players can gain access to additional maps. Players only need access to a map in order to create games or tournaments on that map. If they are invited to a game or tournament, they can always join it no matter what level they are.

Map creators are in full control of what level their maps unlock. As a map creator, you can log into your map at any time, click the "Edit Name/Description" button and set the level. You can do this even after it's public. If you want your map available to everyone regardless of their level, you can just set your map to level 1 and everyone will be able to use it.

The advantage of setting a level to your map is increased visibility. For example, if you set your map to level 10, whenever someone levels up to 10 it'll pop up a message on their screen letting them know they've unlocked your map. For best visibility, you should try to set your map to a level that has few other maps assigned to it (or at least, where your map is rated more highly than the others at that level.)

The Diplomacy gametype is a user created "custom" game with a set of rules in a FFA to be followed to play the game as a real world scenario of deceiving enemies, making valuable alliances, making "declarations" of war, and eventually being the last one standing, however, the game can be voted to end if an alliance claims "victory".
# No attacking other players without declaring war on them in public chat so as to give the enemy a fair chance. Often both Sides have to wait a turn to attack after the war-declaration
# No attacking an player without warning (in some games this is known as "Blitzkrieging", German for "Lighting War".)
# Alliances are encouraged. Some games require alliances be made public, some allow it to be private. Allies are a good way of invading successfully or defending from a stronger enemy.
#Maximum Number of Allies a Player can have (Even if Alliances are encouraged, there's sometimes a limit so Alliances won't get too big)

Other possible rules consist of:
#Only Hosts can declare PEs
#Gangbanging forbidden/allowed (Gangbanging in this case means that many Players together attack one alone Player (Like a 5vs1). Often a Player alone can't defend himself from several Players, that's why it's often forbidden.)
#Claims (doesn't) have to be respected (Claiming means, that a Player says that a Bonus on Neutral or booted territory is his. Often Claiming doesn't need to be respected)
#Reasons for war (not) needed (Sometimes, there must be a Reason to declare War to reduce War-Mongering. An example could be that somebody didn't respected your Claim or somebody attacked your Ally.)
#Roleplay mandatory (Means, that Players actually have to Roleplay, and don't treat the Diplomacy-Game like any other Warzone-Game)

If a player breaks the custom rules of the Diplomacy Game, they aren't breaking the actual Rules of Warzone. They only become a PE for this Diplomacy-game.

PE (Public Enemy)
Players which break Rules in a Diplomacy Games are often called a "PE", which is short for Public Enemy.
In many Diplomacy Games only the Hosts can (un)declare PEs, but sometimes the Hosts also allows normal Players to (un)declare PEs.

Often all Players which are adjacent to a PE can attack the PE without warning/permission and even have to attack the PE, if they're able to. Somebody who won't attack a PE or even are helping a PE might become a PE itself.

Origin
While the exact creator is not known as after its obscure creation other users quickly copied the rules and made spinoffs, the user "Soviet Russia Buddy" takes the most credit for creating the game. His first game was known as "Reality Warfare, A New Way Of Playing", which was then shortened to "Reality Warfare" which its current name is. This can be disputed by Le Count H who was laying the foundation in scenarios in late September of 2012. These were initially unfair due their emphasis on giving nations overwhelming advantages due to their size. His games became extremely popular the following summer. Another user named "Zecit" coined the term "Public Enemy" in his game "Simulation World", which is used in many Diplomacy games. Out of all hosts commonly making these games, he (presumably male) has the most amount of rules and hosts games at least once a day. However, not all of them are rules and rather more creative and realistic additions, one of which is a rule involving capitals, and some are guidelines that can be used to be more "diplomatic". People who have played with him have said they have played that gametype with him for almost 2 years. When asked where he got his possibly original idea, he said he had been playing a 24FFA with no fog when he noticed that everyone had to have secret alliances as no one was attacking anyone.

Current
Currently, many different players host these games. Most of them are 6FFAs, but Soviet Russia Buddy and others host 24FFAs, or sometimes less for scenario diplomacy games. While many players attribute many different users for its creation, many only use 3-4 of Soviet Russia Buddy's original rules, usually copying them word for word. Alternatively, rules are slacked and public declarations are only required if a player wants to be "trustworthy". Many diplomacy games involve a strong element of roleplay, as players play as if they were a character in whichever world the game is set in. This works especially well with maps of universes from fantasy novels, such as George RR Martin's "Song of Ice and Fire".

Diplomacy mods
The most requested feature from Uservoice, Peace Treaties, has been implemented as a Mod. The Advanced Diplomacy Mod and Diplomacy mod remove the need for players to be "trustworthy", as declarations are not needed anymore, since if you are at peace with someone, you cannot attack each other.

<em>Warning: As of November 2018, there are bugs with the Advanced Diplomacy mod. Use the Diplomacy mod instead</em>

Other
Common settings are "no fog" or "slight fog", so as to know if someone really did blitzkrieg. All cards are often enabled to allow for interesting storyline twists to occur in the game.

Also most Diplomacy-games are Multi-Day Games, so everyone can react easily and unstressed and because Diplomacy-Games often have many Players. But also some are Real-Time with a high Boot-Time.

Most hosts make the game a practice game.

Most hosts also use custom scenarios, if they aren't able to use custom scenarios, they usually choose manual distribution.

card farming
Given the difficulty of obtaining cards during long periods of peace, sometimes players will engage in a practice known as card farming. Two friendly players that border each other will agree to let the 'planter' take a territory from the other player, only to have the 'harvester' take the territory back on the exact same turn as a delayed action.

Note: this will cost 4 armies in a game where one army must stand guard, and 2 in games without it.

Warning: engaging in this practice without making sure both players fully understand it can be very costly, and end up in broken bonuses. It can also be construed as a war by uninformed players so it's very important to engage in clear and constant communication.

23.92.17.89: "tornaments" -> "tournaments"

Feedback is very helpful for making Warzone into a great game. Many of Warzone's features came from community feedback.

Your vote counts
Warzone uses a UserVoice forum to track feature additions or changes. There, players can vote on which features they'd most like to see added to Warzone.

Here's how it works: Everyone gets 10 votes. You can vote for features that you would like to see added to Warzone. So you can vote for 10 different features, or you can put multiple votes into a single feature if you really care about that feature. (Up to a max of 3 votes per feature)

You can take your votes back or move them around at any time. If a feature gets implemented, you also get your votes back and can put them towards something else.

IMPORTANT: You must use the same e-mail address on UserVoice.com that you use on warzone.com. This is how the site knows you're the same person. If you use a different e-mail address, your votes will not be counted. This also means that if you change your Warzone e-mail address, you should also change your UserVoice e-mail.

Criteria for a new feature
While it would be great to implement every feature suggested, this simply isn't possible. There's no magic number of votes that a feature needs to get accepted; the point of voting is to see which features are most in-demand. This is also important to avoid design-by-committee syndrome, since sometimes trying to please everyone ends up pleasing no one.

Features are typically judged based on these criteria:

* How good of a fit the feature is for Warzone's theme and direction.
* How much effort the feature takes to implement and maintain.
* How many votes the feature gets (i.e. how in-demand it is).
* Additionally, sometimes a feature can get implemented just because it happens to fall into an area of code that is being worked on for something else.

UserVoice Multi-Ideas
A single idea on the UserVoice forum should generally contain a single idea/feature/improvement. Sometimes players create an idea that mentions multiple features. Doing this is not disallowed, however, it is risky, and may not get you what you want. A good example is the Tournament Overhaul idea, which calls for many features to be added to tournaments.

The advantage of creating a single idea with multiple features is that it appears more attractive to other voters. If any one of your features appeals to a player, they're likely to vote on it, and therefore you're likely to get more votes.

The problem comes when one or some of the features is implemented, but not all. After this is done, the Warzone developers will simply mark it as Completed, even though only part of it was done.

The reasoning is that if they leave the idea as it is in Uservoice, it would leave features up for voting that are completed. If they edited the idea to remove the features implemented, leaving the ones not implemented, it would invalidate the votes numbers since there's no way of knowing what features people really wanted when they put their votes into that idea.

Therefore, these ideas will just be closed as completed if any part of them is implemented. After this is done, everyone who voted for them will get their votes back. If the voters still desire a part of the idea that was not implemented, they can create a new idea specific to that part, and put their freshly acquired votes into that one one.

UserVoice and Mods
Sometimes, people submit ideas to the UserVoice forum that can be implemented with Warzone's mod framework. This section outlines guideline for whether or not your idea belongs on UserVoice:

First, if your idea cannot be implemented using the mod framework, then it's OK to submit to it UserVoice. You can either word it as a normal feature, or word it as an idea to add support to the mod framework.

If your idea can be implemented using the mod framework, next determine if a mod already exists to accomplish it. If a mod already exists, then it's OK to submit it to UserVoice as an idea to convert a mod into a built-in feature. Be sure to note in the description that your idea is to convert an existing mod into a built-in feature. Note that these type of ideas will only be considered if the mod is already pretty popular.

If your idea can be implemented using the mod framework, but no mod exists yet, you should not submit it as an idea to UserVoice. The next step in getting your idea to become reality is to get it created as a mod. UserVoice is not the appropriate place to pitch to mod developers, as UserVoice is aimed at pitching your idea to the Warzone creators. Instead, if you can't create the mod yourself or need help doing so, try the Warzone Programming forum.

Mods are a way of modifying/expanding the Warzone core gameplay beyond what is possible using the built-in configuration options. Modded games can be created only by members.

Mods are easy to use! When joining a game with mods, Warzone automatically downloads the mod. No installation is required. Simply join or create a game that has mods enabled.

Single-player modded games are always free for members. Likewise, multi-player games where all players are members are also free. Members can create a modded game for non-members by using the special "Allow non-members to join" check-box on the mods page. Using this special checkbox is free once per week to members, (restarts Monday), but after that it will cost a small fee (3 coins per player, member or not, in the game). This fee exists since mods can run on the server, and modded games are significantly more CPU-intensive for the Warzone server to run than non-modded games.

23.92.17.89: /* Receiving Cards */

Cards can be played to accomplish a variety of tasks, such as gaining additional armies, spying on opponents, airlifting armies around, etc.

Receiving Cards
When you successfully attack and capture an enemy or neutral territory, at the end of that turn you will receive a piece of a card, regardless of whether you lose the territory later that turn. You can't get more, no matter how many territories you take.

In the Diplomacy Gametype it's sometimes not possible to obtain cards through normal means. In these situations a technique called 'card farming' is used, where two allied players will agree to swap a territory. This is done typically with an early order to take the target territory from player 1, with a later order on the same turn from player 2 to take back the same territory. This strategy is perfectly effective if both players understand what they're doing.

Warning: Some hosts might not understand, or know that a trade is occurring, make sure that they're appropriately informed so that they don't mistakenly think you're PE or 'cheating'. There's also the risk that an amateur or absent minded player might send too many armies, forget to take back the territory, or misunderstand your request; risking a massive loss. There is little to no risk if everyone involved knows what they're doing, so communication is key.

Games can also be configured to give more than one piece per turn via the number of card pieces per turn setting. In this case, players who take a territory will always get exactly that number of pieces configured by that game each turn.

If a game has multiple types of cards included, the type of card(s) you get is determined randomly based on their weight. It's also possible for game creators to configure minimums that remove the randomness, either partially or completely.

Details
The game creator can pick which cards will be available in their game, so be sure to check the game settings to know which types of cards you're dealing with.

Cards can be divided into any number of pieces. You cannot play a card until you have collected the entire card.

You may only hold onto a certain number of cards at one time, as defined by the maximum number of cards you can hold setting. Therefore, there can be occurrences where you must use or discard a card.

When you play a card, that card is consumed. Even if the card had no effect, you don't get your card back. For example, if you spy on a player who gets eliminated the same turn, the card is just wasted.

Types of Cards
Warzone has 13 different cards:

* Reinforcement Card
* Spy, Reconnaissance, and Surveillance Cards
* Blockade and Emergency Blockade Cards
* Order Priority Card
* Order Delay Card
* Airlift Card
* Gift Card
* Diplomacy Card
* Sanctions Card
* Bomb Card

Card Fog
There are two "fog" settings that determine what is shown to your opponents in regards to cards:

* Visibility of opponent's cards: This setting, visible or hidden, determines whether you can see what cards your opponent is holding as well as the type of card they get at the end of each turn. To see the cards, open the Cards panel and select a player in the drop-down.

* Visibility of opponents playing cards: This setting, visible or hidden, determines whether you can see when your opponents play their cards. If it's set to visible, then all cards being played are public (they'll show up in the orders list.)

The Army Cap is a feature designed to help prevent games from falling into stalemates where no players want to attack.

When a game creator enables the Army Cap, your income could be reduced to prevent you from piling up too many armies. This is designed to force players to either attack to gain additional income, or risk falling behind by not receiving new armies.

For example, if your income is 14 and the Army Cap is set at 20, the total number of armies you can have is 280 (14 times 20). If you reach 280 armies on the board, you will no longer receive new armies until you either increase your income or reduce the number of armies you have on the board.

Reinforcement cards do not count as income and will always give you the number of armies that they normally would.

It's possible to have more armies on the board than the Army Cap allows, for example through losing income, by playing reinforcement cards or receiving transfer from a teammate. Armies are never taken away from you - in this situation you just simply wouldn't gain additional armies to deploy until you reduce your total armies or your income increases.
